Performance of GPS, GLONASS and Galileo

After a short introduction, an overview about the Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) GPS, GLONASS and Galileo is given. For each system, a status report is presented and then the three main positioning algorithms: Single Point Positioning, Differential Pseudorange and Carrier Phase Positioning are described. In the Summary, the systems are compared and and outlook is given.

Precise positioning with current multi-constellation Global Navigation Satellite Systems: GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou

The world of satellite navigation is undergoing dramatic changes with the rapid development of multi-constellation Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSSs). At the moment more than 70 satellites are already in view, and about 120 satellites will be available once all four systems (BeiDou + Galileo + GLONASS + GPS) are fully deployed in the next few years. This will bring great opportunities ...

RAIM Algorithms Analysis for a Combined GPS/GALILEO Constellation

How far a user can rely on his navigation system is a central question for safety of life applications like air navigation especially in approach phases. For Oceanic, En route or Non Precision Approach phases, the integrity requirements as defined by the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) should be fulfilled by the future Galileo Safety of Life Service. This paper presents the per...

Integrity Mechanisms for GPS Satellites within the Galileo Architecture

This paper presents the results of the study of a number of options for the provision of integrity data for GPS satellites within the Galileo architecture, and their corresponding impacts. The project was supported by Alcatel Space and was a contribution to the Galileo definition studies (supported by the European Community under the GALA project), addressing in particular, the definition of st...

Single Point Positioning Using GPS, GLONASS and BeiDou Satellites

This paper introduces the Chinese BeiDou satellite system and its comparison with the actual completed American GPS and the Russian GLONASS systems. The actual BeiDou system consists of 14 satellites covering totally the Asia-Pacific area. A Single Point Positioning (SPP) test has been realised in Changsha, Hunan province, China, to show the advantage of using combined pseudorange solutions fro...
